The pump can be switched on in the engine room by depressing the button on the vacuum switch or by remote control from wheelhouse etc. Depress remote control button for 15 seconds and the pump engages. When the bilge is dry the pump automatically is shut down by vacuum switch. A control panel with lights and three position switch is advisable.
